Unethical jobs to be maintained at all costs?

In regard to my previous post, one reason always given by dog track supporters for maintaining the status quo is the protection of jobs. Nearly every animal welfare or rights story I read cites job protection as a reason to continue a certain animal-cruel industry. The jobs of the Canadian seal hunters, Maine lobstermen, fur trappers, etc. all have to be protected. Since when is having a particular job a god-given right? So much so that it takes precedence over the lives of other creatures? Lots of people lose jobs for a variety of reasons. The members of the Qalandar tribe in India have traditionally made their living by capturing bear cubs, doing horrific things to them, and having them work as dancing bears. Wildlife S.O.S. is rescuing these bears and through the Qalandar Rehabilitation program, the organization is helping these families find alternate employment and providing their children with education opportunities. Read more here. The same could be done for others engaged in unethical professions.
