Bad news for the Dog Protection Act
In a disturbing turn of events, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has ruled that the Dog Protection Act, which would phase out greyhound racing by 2008, strengthen laws against dogfighting, and increase penalties for hurting law enforcement and service dogs such as guide dogs, cannot be put on the ballot in November. The reason given is that the ballot question contains “multiple, unrelated subjects.” Huh? It is called the “Dog Protection Act” because all of its components are meant to…ok, this might be a long shot here, uh, protect dogs. The attorney for the racetrack owner said the ballot question was set up to confuse voters. What confusion? Either voters want to protect dogs or they don’t.
